Name Mandy’s Cat in Whiskey and Gumdrops!

NOTE: Mandy’s cat name suggestions is now closed. Thank you so much for all the wonderful suggestions (67!!).

~~~
After much deliberating and trying to entice my kids and their cousins to narrow down the wonderful list of names for me, I managed to whittle it down to one winning name for Mandy’s cat in Whiskey and Gumdrops. Not only did this name have the most votes, it is a name I can play around with in terms of themes (I may have to brush up on my Shakespeare first!), and it also sounds like a high end car which fits with Mandy’s interests!
Drum roll please!
The winner of Name Mandy’s Cat is…. Joanne Costello with her name: Portia!
Thank you Joanne (I will email you!), and thank you everyone for your wonderful suggestions. At one point I was thinking I might have to give Mandy about ten to twenty cats as there were so many wonderful names!
Thank you again and stay tuned for more fun!
Okay dear readers, I need help.
And you are completely qualified! 100%!
I need to name Mandy’s cat in my upcoming Blueberry Springs book, Whiskey and Gumdrops. I have a lot of troubles naming characters sometimes and have tagged Mandy’s half-Persian kitty as Fluffinator at the moment. It’s quirky and goofy, but it doesn’t quite fit.
Here’s the scoop:
In the comment section of this post, suggest names for Mandy’s cat. If you see one you like in the comments, you can vote for it by leaving a comment saying you are voting for that one.
Once a name has been chosen (thank you in advance!!!) that person will be mentioned in the book’s acknowledgements as having named Mandy’s cat. (If you would rather stay anonymous, that is fine, too. We can work around that.) As well, I would like to gift you with an ebook or paperback copy of Whiskey and Gumdrops when it is released (late September or early October).
Here are some Fluffinator sneak peeks:
She ignored FLUFFINATOR, her half Persian who was rubbing against her, determined to leave as much gray fur on Mandy’s navy uniform as possible.
Yeah, typical cat, right? Here’s more:
Mandy burst out laughing, startling FLUFFINATOR who acted highly insulted as she strutted away, head held high, nose pointed upward, and that gargantuan tail definitely giving her the finger.
This cat has ‘tude!
Mandy closed her laptop and crossed the room. She pet FLUFFINATOR, who had returned to the windowsill unfazed, and scanned the street. This kind of behavior usually meant Frankie was out there. FLUFFINATOR, despite her typical haughtiness had a thing for Frankie, even though the puss did her best not to let it show around him.
Like Mandy, like kitty.
Okay, that’s all I’m sneak peeking at the moment, but it should give you a feel for Fluffinator.
Comment away! And thanks for reading.
Note: Name the cat ends Sunday, August 4th at midnight Mountain Time.
Another Note: After finding this picture to brighten the post and provide inspiration, I totally want to name Fluffinator Mr. Winkles–even though the cat, in my mind, is female. BUT I should also note that I can easily change the sex of the cat to fit the winning name.
      Oh, I like Portia! I vote for this one. 😀
  5. nemune
  6. hannah rasmussen
    Fiona!
  7. Christina Plummer
    I would suggest Mercedes or ms. Diva
  8. Fluffinator reminds me of my much missed Conspirator Queen – Moxey. And that’s the name I’m entering.
    Sassy
  10. Jennifer Jackson
    Duchess or Princess
  11. Linda
    How about SugarBabe ? Of course my cat is Lacey….
  12. Jamie Gorges
    Countess seems to fit her personality.
  13. Norma Rago Weaver
    How about Puster?
    1. Lol, Norma. That is a kitty nickname that could stick. Our current cat Yuna is nicknamed Tuna, or The Big Tuna.
  14. I can already tell I’m going to have a tough time deciding! Such fun and beautiful names. Keep ’em coming and remember that you can vote for ones you like if the feeling strikes you. (Or get your friends to vote for yours! )
    🙂
  15. Samantha
    Name the cat – Sahara
  16. Tasha Weaver
    Gruffy, Princess Sofia, Smoke, Miss Boots
  17. CheeChee or GiGi are my votes!
  18. I might have to give Mandy a couple of cats. 😉
    Lovin’ the names!
  19. Rachel Hall
    Snickers! Bad for you but can’t help but love it
    1. Ha, ha! I thought ‘Snickers’ was a suggested kitty name at first–I like it. 😉 Yeah, I love all the names, but it IS going to be difficult to decide.
      1. Rachel Hall
        Yes sorry Snickers is my entry lol
        1. Ok, cool Rachel. I wasn’t sure. 🙂 I thought you were laughing at my predicament of having to choose a name. :O
  20. selena scott
    Fluffinator reminds of of fluffanutta popular for The Bostonians. So I saw Whiskers
  21. Colleen
    Reading the excerpts, she sounds quite a bit like my actual (Himalayan), and her name was Princess!! I know, not very original…but it was very appropriate!!!
  22. Becky Thompson
    Sassy would be a good name I believe
  23. Dena Pugh
    Nimbus (as in the cloud). According to Wikipedia Nimbus is “A nimbus cloud is a cloud that produces precipitation. Usually the precipitation reaches the ground as rain, hail, snow, or sleet. Falling precipitation may evaporate as virga.
    Since nimbus clouds are dense with water, they appear darker than other clouds. Nimbus clouds are formed at low altitudes and are typically spread uniformly across the sky.
    The little snippets of text you’ve given show the cat gives off hair and attitude 🙂
  24. Steph
    Missy or Gizzy or ChiChi. I think Missy suits best.
  25. Francine
    Amber…..if she has eyes the the cat in the picture!
  26. Revo
    the defiance, aloofness and possessiveness have me thinking ‘Tink’, and in Tinkerbell from Peter Pan.
  27. Gremlin but do like Portia
    Good luck Jean, looks like you’ll need it x
  28. Loving all these names!! Good luck choosing – there are so many great suggestions!
  29. michelle4laughs
    Marshmallow. She’s puffy and squishy like a marshmallow, plus it is the opposite of her snooty personality.
    Or maybe Miss Snootypants, but that is rather long.
  30. MadSeasonGirl
    Templeton! or Sassafras! oooh or Miss Puckerton!
  31. MadSeasonGirl
    Oh wait! How about Mr. Wizard! Sorta tying in her thing she has for Oz.
    1. Ha ha! I love the way your mind works. 😉
  32. What a fun game! Does your main character like whiskey? How about playing off the title of whiskey for the name of the cat. Jim Beam and call the cat J. B. or Jack Daniels and call the cat J. D. Don’t know if the cat is male or female, but I don’t think it matters. If your character likes wine you could name the cat Chardonnay etc. Good thing you have no limit for names because my mind is racing. If you don’t like the above names . . . how about a name for a whiskey drink? Whiskey Sour, Highball, or Manhattan. My last guess is Lollipop to playoff the word Gumdrops in the title. Love your postings.
  33. Thought of a couple more names while cleaning out my kitchen cabinets. Does your main character like cookies? How about Oreo or Snicker Doodles a.k.a. Snickers. (Or Snickers for her favorite candybar) Oh, Chardonnay a.k.a. Char and Lollipop a.k.a. Lolli. Okay, I promise no more postings.
    1. Lol! Mitzi, lots of names are fine. There are a lot of good suggestions here. I may have to add a horde of cats in each of the books for this series. 😉
      1. I suggest ‘Merlin’
        Brenda Jenkins Kleager, Author of Secret Meanings of Flowers (nonfiction)
  34. Anna Maria Junus
    Here are my suggestions. You can do Miss…. and then any of the following names, or leave off the Miss. Suzette. Veronica, Wilhemina, Anglica, Elizabeth, Felicity, Odessa, Ophelia, Oprah, Penelope, Roxy, Tabitha. (I try to avoid obvious pet names).
  35. Jennifer Jackson
    Priscilla or Prissy for short
  36. Becky T
    Looking at the cat again I think Cybil would be a fitting name.
  37. professor mcgonagall 🙂
  38. I like: MR. WHISPERS
    the color – markings – the story – sounds like whiskers…Mr. Whispers!
  39. There are so many good ones here….The cat is so fluffy, the first thing I thought of was Puff n’ Stuff…that used to be a kid’s show here in the U.S. when I was little. Puff for short..but that’s way too normal compared to some of these others..lol. 😉
  40. I like Mr. Wizard. I would vote for that one. Also, how about Wizzy for short? I had a cat name Willow once. Named her after a character on a TV show. Willow (on the TV show) dated a guy named Oz. It could work. 🙂
